offers learning opportunity for everyone …
For International Students
We offer an ideal location for learning a variety of sciences and skills. We can assist faculty-led groups and/or offer our own courses. Our courses include ethnobotany, edible landscaping, tropical fruit identification and horticulture. Courses can be modified to fit your curriculum.
Students and group leaders can stay inside the Botanic Gardens at our affordable Guest House, which provides student-group accommodations for up to 16. There are also two private Cottages available for staff and faculty.
The Gardens multi-use Visitors’ Center, is the hub for student activity and serves as classroom, dining area and recreation center.
Adjacent to the Gardens is a 62-acre private Reserve available for short and long term research. Learning possibilities within the Botanic Gardens are unlimited …
We welcome Belizean students from all levels of education to visit the gardens for an informative guided-tour or to take part in one of our workshops or courses. Belize Botanic Gardens also offers a 6-week job skills training in horticulture. The gardening job market is expanding as the Tourism Industry grows and job placements are available for students who do well in this course.
Institutions of Higher Learning
Students from Universities and Vocational schools can utilize the Garden for research and participate in existing programs in ethnobotany, horticulture and agriculture.
The Garden also offers low cost field-study opportunities for Belizeans and International students of natural sciences to make use of our native plant collections and botanical library.
Teens make the toughest customers but we are confident we can design a tour for your students. Classes from First to Fourth Form will benefit by getting up close and personal with nature.
Take a hike with one of our guides on the Rainforest Trail and gather edibles to help prepare and cook on the fogon.
Walk the Medicine Trail and see some of the plants your Grandmother used in treating illness.
It is wonderful to learn outdoors where you can smell, see, taste and touch plants and hear stories about them. Teachers bring your class and their parents for a memorable day at the gardens. Picnics welcome or let us know and we will provide lunch. Children from San Ignacio and beyond can come and enjoy the grounds for the day.
We’ve hosted children from Corozol, Stann Creek, San Pedro and everywhere in between for more than 15 years and our experienced staff we would be pleased to assist in planning your next curriculum-based field trips.
